Chapter 10

PROPORTIONALIZING TEXT

Once the text is downloaded into Macintosh WordPerfect, text and pictures can be Proportionalized automatically for silent reading one word at a time without any further attention.

To Proportionalize a Section or File of Regular Text

Select and copy to the clipboard the text you want to Proportionalize. Often this is just a matter of selecting the whole article and then copying it to the clipboard.
Type: Command+F2
Alternatively, pull down the macro menu to "ac) PR Selection".

Marking Proportional Text Files with pr at the Beginning

Save your Proportional Text files with a small pr and space at the far left of the title. This label code clearly identifies this type of file for you. The initial letters "pr" are also used as a key in order to switch back and forth between text files and note files while reading.

Before you Proportionalize text you should "Save As" your text with pr before the name. This way you won't accidentally overwrite the plain text with the Proportionalized text.

Reading Web Pages with PR

Any Web page may be selected by dragging the mouse over what you wish to read and then proportionalized by going to WordPerfect and typing Command+F2. The Web page will stay in the background while you are easily able to read the text using Proportional Reading. This is ideal if you want to go back and forth to and from the Web to look up pictures or check anything out.

Note: Pressing F2, you can have the Proportionalized text read out loud in synthesized voice. This is only one of many ways Web text can be read out loud. See chapter on Reading Text Out Loud.
